12 Days Through Morocco's Imperial Cities, Blue Mountains, and Golden Sahara
Twelve days from Casablanca to Marrakech. Imperial cities, blue alleys, Roman ruins, cedar forests, and the Sahara. We ride camels at sunset, cook with Berber families, sleep under stars, and walk on stones laid two thousand years ago. Morocco gives us mint tea, henna on our hands, and stories we will tell for years. This is not a tour. It is a conversation between us and a country that knows how to listen.
Casablanca
Arrive at any time. Your driver meets you at the airport and brings you to the hotel. Attend a welcome meeting in the evening to get to know your fellow travelers and Trip Leader. Then choose to join the group for an optional dinner to close out the night. If you arrive early, explore the Hassan II Mosque or relax along the Corniche.
The adventure begins not with a sight, but with a handshake and a shared meal.
After breakfast, we visit the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest in the world.
Then northwest to Rabat, where a local guide walks us through history. The Kasbah des Oudaias, white walls and blue doors tumbling to the sea. The medina and souks, a stop for mint tea and sweets.
The Mohamed V Mausoleum, marble and cedar so peaceful we whisper without thinking. The Hassan Tower, unfinished after eight centuries, still reaching. Lunch on our own, then onward to Meknès. Evening free to rest or find a nearby restaurant.
From the tallest minaret to the quietest mausoleum, today Morocco teaches us that grandeur and peace can live in the same breath.
Chefchaouen
Morning in Meknès, old medina and vibrant stalls. We visit Bab Mansour, Dar Jamai museum, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail.
Then to Volubilis, a certified local guide walks us through Roman ruins, bathhouses, mosaics, and pillars that have stood for two thousand years. Onward to Chefchaouen, arriving by evening.
Free time at the guesthouse to rest before the blue city reveals itself tomorrow.
From imperial gates to Roman gods to blue walls waiting in the dusk, today we travel through centuries before dinner.
Fes
Morning light turns Chefchaouen's walls to sapphire and indigo. Our Trip Leader leads us up the stairs, through blue streets, past the historic Kasbah, to Rass Elma and the Spanish Mosque for views of the Rif. Free time for lunch, then the drive to Fès, arriving early evening. We gather for a traditional dinner, Pastilla with milk, the city's sweet and salty signature, served as dessert. The cultural heart of Morocco awaits us tomorrow.
From blue alleys to golden pastry, today Morocco feeds our eyes and our hunger in equal measure.
Fes (City Exploration)
Our local guide leads us into Fès el-Bali, the living museum. Through great gates into 9,000 winding streets, 350 mosques still in use, buildings dating to the 9th century. We explore artisans' quarters, meet carpenters and spice sellers, visit Al Qarawiyin University. The highlight: the tannery from a leather shop balcony, men at work in dye pits, mint in our fists. Time to shop for leather goods before returning to the hotel. Evening free to wander or rest.
In Fès, we do not visit history. We wear it on our shoes, taste it on our fingers, and carry it home in our chests.
Midelt
We leave Fès and climb into the Middle Atlas, stop in Ifrane for tea among alpine-style streets. Onward to Midelt, where a local family opens their door for lunch, Berber cuisine cooked with hands that learned from their mothers. Afterward, we walk through Berber villages in the foothills, apple orchards, mountain views, friendly faces. Then henna, local women painting our hands with intricate designs. Check in, optional swim, dinner at the hotel.
Merzouga (CAMP)
The road carries us through changing scenery to the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi. Stop in Arfoud, learn about dates and fossils, buy a desert scarf. At Merzouga, we mount camels and ride into the sands. Climb a dune for sunset,
the Sahara glowing. At camp, tea, dinner by firelight, Berber musicians playing beneath the stars. We fall asleep in tents, the desert silence wrapping around us, knowing this night stays forever.
The desert does not ask us to forget the world. It gives us a sky big enough to hold it all.
Merzouga (hotel)
We wake with the sun, breakfast among dunes. Then 4x4s carry us deeper into Erg Chebbi, a kohl mine teaching us ancient beauty secrets. We meet Amazigh nomads, share tea, learn their ways. In Khamlia, Gnaoua music fills the air, drums and stories from across the Sahara. Then Taous village, a Medfouna cooking class, we bake and eat our creations. Back to Merzouga, free time, then bonfire, dinner, music under the stars once more.
From nomad tents to Gnaoua drums to the taste of our own making, today the Sahara teaches us that survival and celebration live side by side.
Skoura
We leave the desert behind, the road carrying us through changing scenery. Stop in Tinghir, a breath between worlds. Then Skoura, the oasis city, date palms everywhere, Atlas Mountains snowcapped in the distance. Our guide leads us through the Valley of One Thousand Kasbahs, mud walls and green palms, stories of this lifeline in the dry. Photos, then back to the hotel, free time, pool, group dinner. The heat fades, the journey slows.
From golden dunes to green palms, today Morocco reminds us that water and life find each other, even in the driest places.
Marrakech
We wind through the Atlas, Tizi n'Tichka at 2,260 meters, clouds sitting below. Stop at Aït Ben Haddou, UNESCO ksar, walk its streets, climb to the top, views forever. Recognize it from films, feel the history in mud and straw. Cross the mountains, descend to Marrakech, check in. Optional Gueliz walk with our Trip Leader, city center, local life, ending at Menara Gardens, 12th-century peace. Evening free, dinner on our own.
From ancient walls to modern streets, today we come full circle. Marrakech waits where we left it, louder and more alive than ever.
Marrakesh (City exploration)
Morning at Zarbiat Achbarou Cooperative, tree nursery, Jewish Cemetery, women sharing their stories, their weaving, their lunch. Back in Marrakech, Bahia Palace, brilliance in every corner. Ben Youssef Madrasa, 14th-century beauty, tiles and cedar and calm. Then the medina, Koutoubia Mosque, the maze of streets, souks, spices, lanterns, slippers. Shop, wander, get lost on purpose. Optional farewell dinner in Djemaa el-Fnaa, the square roaring one last time.
From women's hands to palace tiles to market chaos, today Marrakech gives us everything, then asks us to stay one more night.
Home
Depart at any time. Optional hot air balloon for early risers, sunrise over Marrakech, red dust and palm groves from above, Amazigh breakfast in a tent after. Not ready to leave? Our Trip Leader can help extend the adventure. Otherwise, we say goodbye, carry the colors, sounds, and warmth of Morocco with us, memories that stay forever.
